What is an Aviation Maintenance Technician?

An Aviation Maintenance Technician  commonly referred to as an (A&P) is an FAA licensed person authorized to maintain, service, and inspect aircraft, powerplant, aircraft systems, and aircraft related components. 

How do I Become a Licensed Aircraft Technician? 

In order to become a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensed aircraft – powerplant technician you must successfully complete an FAA approved part 147 aviation maintenance school program.  Long Beach City College’s Airframe & Powerplant Aviation Maintenance Program is an FAA approved program under the Federal Aviation Regulations Part 147.

How Long Does the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program take to complete?

Long Beach City College’s Aviation Maintenance Program consists of 8 eight week courses.  You can successfully complete Long Beach City College’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program in  2 years. 

How much does the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program Cost?

Long Beach City Community College offers classes at just $20.00 per unit. The complete Aviation Maintenance Technician Program can be completed for less than $2,000.00       (64 units @ $20 per unit ).  Financial Aid assistance is available.

What sort of credentials will I receive upon completion of the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program?

After successful completion of the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program you will receive a certificate satisfying the requirements of CFR 14 FAR 65 & 147, granting you authorization to take the Aviation Maintenance Technician Exam. After successfully passing the exam you will then be issued an FAA A&P license. Aviation Maintenance Degree programs are also available, and are highly encouraged.  Units earned within the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program count towards your Associates of Science Degree in Aviation Maintenance allowing you to maximize the credits earned, saving time & money!

What classes are required for the completion of the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program?  

The following is a list of required   courses:                                                             

* AVMNT 201 GENERAL AIRCRAFT SCIENCE
* AVMNT 202 GENERAL AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE
* AVMNT 203 AIRFRAME STRUCTURES
* AVMNT 204 AIRFRAME COMPONENTS
* AVMNT 205 AIRFRAME SYSTEMS
* AVMNT 206 POWERPLANT SYSTEMS
* AVMNT 207 POWERPLANT / RECIPROCATING ENGINES
* AVMNT 208  POWERPLANT / TURBINE ENGINES

 

When can I Start the Aviation Maintenance Program? 

Classes start every nine weeks.  There are four periods of open enrollment throughout the year (August, October, January, and March).  Please call for specific dates 562-938-5200. 

What Class Should I enroll in first? 

 New students register in the AVMNT 201 General class first.
